Ozark is a high-yielding, conventional long-grain rice variety

Key Characteristics

  • Yield Potential: In Arkansas trials, Ozark has averaged around 182 to 219 bushels per acre. It consistently shows a yield advantage (approx. 10 bu/ac) over its predecessor, Diamond.

  • Plant Height: It is a traditional-stature variety, standing about 43–44 inches tall. Despite its height, it has shown surprising resilience to lodging (falling over) during storms because its stalks stay green and strong.

  • Maturity: It is considered a mid-season variety, reaching 50% heading in about 88–91 days from emergence.

  • Grain Quality: It produces slender kernels with a length of approximately 7.45 mm. It is known for having low chalk and very white appearances when cooked.

  • Disease Resistance

Ozark is agronomically strong but requires careful management regarding disease:

  • Susceptible: It is susceptible to Leaf Blast, Neck Blast, Sheath Blight, and Bacterial Panicle Blight.  Moderately Resistant: It shows better tolerance than some other varieties to Straighthead and Narrow Brown Leaf Spot.

  • Smut: It has shown slightly less infection from False Smut compared to Diamond.
